Rodeo Man

Written By - Jay Rougeaux
Performed By - Oral Flossit & Space Lady.

Jay's first country and western number penned for his good friend, the late great Oral flossit. Written around the same time Bobsy Bob left the band to settle in San Diego, one must presume that the lyrics lament his departure, while at the same time celebrate his brothers west coast sexploits.

Lyrics

I remember the day like it was yesterday
We traveled to the airport you were goin' away
I looked in your eyes and the tears they did flow
You were leavin' your home for San Diego

I saw your hands shakin' as you waved good-bye
My heart started achin' I began to cry
Why are you leavin' why are you goin' away
You held me real close and these words you did say

I rode the last one at the rodeo yes I did
Rode the last one at the rodeo
I've rode the last one now I've gotta go
Find me another bigger rodeo
Find me another bigger rodeo

I thought on what you'd said and know it was true
A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do
You'd broke them all in, now your headin' out west
To ride the big rodeo and prove your the best

Leavin' Ma and Pa sure made you sad
But maybe it wasn't really all that bad
Were the tears on your face from the twinkle in your eye
Cos you'd already tasted American pie

We think of you night and most every day
I hope you remember what your Mama did say
Always wear a saddle, keep your brandin' iorn clean
You'll be king of the rodeo, every cow girls dream

Ridin' on the range your sure haven' fun
But folk still here hope that the day it will come
When you hang up your stirrups, put your lasso away
And send home a letter & these words it will say

I rode the last one at the big rodeo in the west
Rode the last one at the rodeo
I rode the last one at the rodeo I'm comin' home
Back to my little home town rodeo
Back to his little home town rodeo
